“….but Cranberry, why a blog?”

I am so glad you asked!!!

Once upon a time, I read some amazing graphic novels called “Sandman” by Neil Gaiman.  Lo and behold, the said author, Neil Gaiman, has a blog which he writes to whenever he’s not too busy, and also has some interesting things to say or pictures to post.  I’ve been reading his entries at www.neilgaiman.com on and off for about 8 years now.  They never cease to amaze me with their humor, wit, and ability to deftly dance around the human condition.

Neil also writes about whatever projects he’s currently working on, if they’re not secret.  If they are secret, or are awaiting further details to materialize, he sort of dances around saying things like, “I met my friend (famous person) and here we are toasting a glass of wine about a super secret amazing project that you will just have to see to believe!!!!”  It’s exciting for me to see a bit into the creative process, and get excited for his future work, that because of the nature of authoring novels, movies, short stories, and children’s books, takes quite a long time to see the finished product.

On December 30th, 2010, I met my hero, Neil Gaiman, here in San Diego at a Dresden Dolls show!  His soon-to-be-wife, Amanda Palmer, is half of the duo of the Dresden Dolls.  I was standing on the lower level of the House of Blues near the ledge between the bar and the rest of the ground floor level of the venue.  I look over, and I see Neil walking up the stairs into the bar area!  I tell my friend Cherry Pie “That’s Neil!  That’s Neil!”  and she says, “I’ll hold your spot.  Go introduce yourself!”  And so I bolted!!!

I walk up to Neil, and he’s speaking with someone else.  So I politely wait and then when I get his attention, I say, “Hello Neil!  I just wanted to take a moment to say hello, and let you know I really appreciate and love all the work you do!” And then he smiled.  And then he said, “Hello!  My name is Neil!”  and then he held out his hand and I shook it.  We spoke a little more about his plans, he and Amanda were going to be going up to San Francisco for New Year’s Eve.  Then I was walking away, and I found myself putting my hands together over my third eye, and bowing and walking away, saying “thank you!”  Neil smiled, then he said, “Sarah!  Give me a hug!!!”  So I did!!!  I floated back over to my friends, shared the moment, then the Dresden Dolls started to play music.  It was probably the best beginning of a year for me ever, meeting my hero, and then participating in such a high energy show.  (If you ever get a chance to see the Dresden Dolls, please GO!!!)

So now, here we are!  I’m all grown up, and just 6 months later I have my own website, with my own blog!!!  What will happen?  What will I say?  Will I talk about the creative process, art, music, collaborating with amazing artists, and strange and unusual events???

Why, yes.  Yes I will.

I’m thinking it will be quite fun.
